The Springfield Way of Doing Business

Built for New England Winters

Springfield gets real winters: a few feet of snow most years, weeks of hard freezes, ice dams along the eaves and a thaw-and-refreeze cycle that works its way into every gap. Then the valley turns hot and sticky in July. We repair with that whole swing in mind, sealing out meltwater, choosing hardware and finishes that hold up to frost and humidity, and fixing the cause instead of just the symptom.

A Clear Price Before Any Work

You get a plain, written number before we start, worked out from a few photos or a short visit. Nothing gets padded, and no surprise charges show up on the final bill. If the job turns out simpler than it looked, the price comes down. If we open a wall and find something bigger, we stop and talk it over with you before going further.

One Visit for the Whole List

Most people don't have one repair, they have eight. Hand us all of them. We show up with a stocked van and work down the list in order: the storm door that won't latch, the running toilet, the bedroom fan, the loose stair rail, the gutter that spills over the front steps. Our licensed electricians and plumbers handle the wiring and plumbing connections, so you aren't booking three different trades.

Local, and Easy to Reach Afterward

We work in Springfield every day, from the painted ladies of McKnight and Forest Park to the capes and ranches of Sixteen Acres and the towns across the river. We know the housing, the weather and the traffic on I-91 and Boston Road. If something we fixed needs a second look, you call the same local number and we come back.

Handyman Service Across Springfield, MA

Springfield sits on the east bank of the Connecticut River, the largest city in western Massachusetts at roughly 155,000 people, and its houses tell the story of how it grew. The Victorian neighborhoods came first: McKnight, laid out in 1881 and known for its hundreds of painted ladies, the Forest Park Heights streets around Sumner Avenue, Maple Hill on the bluff above downtown, and Upper Hill and Old Hill near Springfield College. Two- and three-family houses fill the blocks of the South End, the North End, Liberty Heights and East Springfield, many built for the workers who staffed the Armory, the insurance companies and the factories. After World War II the city filled in its outer edge, and Sixteen Acres, East Forest Park and Pine Point are mostly capes, ranches and split-levels on quieter streets. One morning we might be re-securing plaster in a McKnight Queen Anne; that afternoon we're replacing a vanity faucet in a 1958 Sixteen Acres ranch.

Daily life here follows a few big lines: I-91 along the river, I-291 cutting northeast toward the Mass Pike, Boston Road carrying shopping traffic out toward Wilbraham, and Sumner Avenue and State Street tying the neighborhoods together. Forest Park's 735 acres anchor the south end of the city, and its Bright Nights light display draws crowds every holiday season. Downtown has the Basketball Hall of Fame on the riverfront, the Springfield Museums and Dr. Seuss sculpture garden at the Quadrangle, and the Springfield Armory up on the hill.

What Springfield neighbors book most

Jobs we handle a lot in Springfield

A typical Springfield week covers a wide range: plaster cracks and sticking doors in the Victorian neighborhoods, porch rails and storm doors that took a beating over the winter, light fixtures and ceiling fans swapped in older rooms with high ceilings, running toilets and dripping faucets in two-families, gutters packed with maple and oak leaves in the fall, and full punch lists for landlords turning over a unit between tenants.

Questions we hear around Springfield

Do you cover the whole city?

Yes. That includes Forest Park, East Forest Park, Sixteen Acres and Pine Point in the south and east; McKnight, Old Hill, Upper Hill, Bay and Mason Square through the middle; Maple-High Six Corners, the South End and Metro Center near downtown; and Liberty Heights, Brightwood, Memorial Square, East Springfield and Indian Orchard to the north and east. If your address is in Springfield, we work near you regularly.

Can you work in a downtown apartment or condo building?

Yes. Buildings around Metro Center and the converted mill and office buildings often ask for a certificate of insurance on file, work during set hours and a reserved elevator or loading area. Let us know the building's rules when you book and we'll plan the visit around them so one trip covers your list.
