Faucet & Toilet Repair in Springfield, MA

Faucet and toilet problems are some of the most common calls we get in Springfield, and the city's housing explains why. In older Victorians and two- and three-family houses, fixtures have been replaced several times over the decades, often with whatever was handy, and shutoff valves under sinks and behind toilets may be decades old, stiff or missing altogether. In postwar capes and ranches across Sixteen Acres, East Forest Park, Chicopee and West Springfield, original or second-generation faucets, toilets and disposals are wearing out together. And Massachusetts winters add their own pressure: a slow drip or running toilet wastes water every hour, and old supply lines in cold exterior walls are a known weak point.

We start by finding exactly what's wrong. A dripping faucet may only need a new cartridge, washer or O-ring. A running toilet usually comes down to the flapper, the fill valve or the flush valve. When a fixture is beyond repair, or you simply want a new one, our licensed plumbers handle the installation and connections. We check and replace stiff or leaking shutoff valves, swap old supply lines for new braided ones, and replace garbage disposals with properly connected new units. We test everything under pressure, check for leaks under the sink and around the base of the toilet, and clean up the area before we go.

What this covers

  • Dripping faucet repair and cartridge replacement
  • Kitchen, bath and utility faucet installation
  • Running toilet repair: flapper, fill and flush valves
  • Toilet replacement and wax ring reseating
  • Shutoff valve and supply line replacement
  • Garbage disposal repair and replacement
  • Sink trap and drain leak repair
  • Connections handled by licensed plumbers
A note from around here: Two- and three-family houses in the South End, Liberty Heights and Chicopee often have mixed-era fixtures and stiff old shutoffs, while 1950s and 1960s homes in Sixteen Acres, East Forest Park and West Springfield are due for faucet, toilet and disposal replacements.

How a faucet & toilet repair visit usually goes

Diagnose the Problem

We look at the fixture, test the flow and find exactly where the drip, leak or running water is coming from.

Shut Off and Prepare

We close the shutoffs, or replace them if they're stiff or failing, protect the floor and cabinet and remove the old parts.

Repair or Install

We install new parts or a new fixture, with our licensed plumbers making the connections, and replace worn supply lines.

Test and Clean Up

We turn the water back on, test under pressure, check for leaks and wipe down the area.

Winter is when plumbing problems show up in Springfield-area homes. Sinks on exterior walls, especially in older kitchens and bathrooms with little insulation, can freeze during deep cold snaps. Outdoor spigots that weren't shut off and drained can burst inside the wall. We help prevent that by replacing old spigots with frost-free models, checking that interior shutoffs work, and showing you how to protect vulnerable pipes during a cold snap. Combining that with your faucet and toilet repairs before winter can save a lot of trouble.

What shapes the price in Springfield

What a faucet or toilet repair costs depends on the problem and the fixture. Replacing a flapper or cartridge is quick. Replacing a whole faucet, toilet or disposal takes longer, especially if shutoffs and supply lines also need replacing. Old, corroded or seized connections in older houses can add time. Accessing fixtures in tight cabinets or in older bathrooms can take more effort. Fixing several plumbing items in one visit, like a running toilet, a dripping faucet and a stiff shutoff, is usually the most efficient approach. Older multi-family houses with separate shutoffs for each unit, or none at all, can take longer to isolate before work starts.

Neighbors often ask

Should I repair my dripping faucet or replace it?

If the faucet is a decent quality brand and the body is sound, a new cartridge or set of washers and O-rings usually fixes it. If it's very old, corroded, parts are hard to find or you just want a new look, replacing it makes sense. We'll tell you which way makes more sense once we see it.

Why does my toilet keep running?

Most often it's a worn flapper that no longer seals, a fill valve that doesn't shut off, or a float set too high so water spills into the overflow tube. We diagnose it, replace the worn parts and adjust the water level. If the tank or bowl is cracked, or the toilet is old and inefficient, we can replace it with a new one.

Can you replace my garbage disposal?

Yes. We remove the old unit, check the sink flange and drain connections, and install the new disposal properly, with our licensed plumbers and electricians making the connections. We run water through it, check for leaks and make sure the dishwasher drain connection is correct.

Can you replace an old shutoff valve that won't turn?

Yes. Many older shutoff valves are seized or leak when you try to close them. We shut off water at the main, replace the valve with a modern quarter-turn shutoff and new supply line, and test it. It's worth doing before you need to shut off water in an emergency.

My toilet rocks. Is that a problem?

Yes, it's worth fixing soon. A rocking toilet can break the wax seal, which lets water and sewer gas leak under the floor. We pull the toilet, check the flange and floor, replace the wax ring, shim it level and reset it so it's solid. If the floor is soft from an old leak, we'll show you and talk through next steps.
